Hello Secular Homeschoolers! Hello Mamas who need a minute!

Welcome to Give Mom a Minute! I’ve been thinking for a long time about starting a blog to help other secular homeschoolers. But then I would doubt myself, not sure if what I had to say would really be helpful or valuable to others. Then one night during a mad bout of anxiety-induced insomnia it occurred to me that I was probably not the only one laying awake at that moment, fretting over whether or not I was doing right by my kids, how I would handle all the things on my to do list, and for the love of all that is holy what would I make for supper the next night.

Finding your place in a homeschool community can be hard enough but when you are the secular one it can be even more difficult. (remind me to tell you the story of starting a group – hoping for diversity – and ending up in a group with doomsday preppers. lol. not exactly the diversity I had imagined) Our family has moved several times during these homeschool years. Each time we had to start over completely new looking for friends and playmates. Each time, no matter how conservative the area, we have made amazing friends. In the future, I’ll share with you my top tips for creating a community in your area.

As homeschooling moms we tend to take on a lot. Our every hour is spent thinking about curriculum, extracurricular activities and that aforementioned lack of a menu plan. Are you like me? Have you forgotten to take care of yourself along the way? Feeling constantly overwhelmed without a minute to yourself? and not knowing what you would do with that minute even if you found it?

If you find yourself somewhere in these words then welcome. I hope to provide you some ideas for your secular homeschool including curriculum reviews and tips for a strong homeschool routine. I’ll also bring you along on a journey where we find ourselves again. Pull up a chair. I’ve got coffee and tea. Sugar and cream. Probably a random granola bar. Lots of good books. Popcorn for supper. YOU are welcome here. Your story is welcome here.
